Open russian poker

Open Russian Poker has a huge fan base. In this game, all Players play against the casino, so everyone has an equal chance of winning.

When playing traditional Russian poker, you cannot see other Players’ cards or exchange information about your own. In Open Russian Poker, however, information exchange is allowed.

What else is different? In Open Russian Poker, the payout coefficient for the “Two Pairs” hand is 1:1, while in Russian Poker, the payout coefficient is higher, at 2:1.

Progress of the game

  1. Every Player places an Ante bet. When the Dealer announces, “No more bets”, Players may no longer touch or adjust their bets.

  2. The Dealer deals five cards face down to each box and five cards to themselves.

  3. Players look at their cards and make their decision:

    • Play. Players move their cards to the Bet Area and place an additional wager – Bet - equal to two Antes.
    • Fold – lay down the cards. Players who fold forfeit their original Ante bet.
    • Exchange 2 or 5 cards or purchase one more card. This requires an additional wager equal to the Ante. Players may exchange cards or purchase a sixth card only once per round.
  4. The Dealer exchanges cards in the same order they were dealt. After the exchange, Players may review their cards again and decide whether to continue playing (placing a Bet equal to two Antes) or fold, losing the original Ante bet.

  5. Once all Players have made their final decision, the Dealer reveals their cards and compares poker hands one by one. Hands stronger than the Dealer’s win.

When a Player has a hand of “Three of a Kind” or higher, they may insure this hand against the Dealer’s “No Game” (before the Dealer reveals their cards). To do so, the Player places a wager between the amount of the Ante and 100% of the expected payout for their hand, within the table’s maximum payout limits.

If the Dealer has any qualifying poker hand, the insurance bet loses. The exception is when the Dealer’s hand is higher than the Player’s or when the hands are equal. In such cases, the insurance wager is returned – it is neither taken nor paid.

The total payout on a single box (hand + insurance) cannot exceed the table’s maximum payout.

If the Dealer has “No Game”, the insurance bet wins and pays 1:1.

Russian Poker is unique in allowing the Player to hold two poker hands simultaneously, with both paid according to the payout table.

Two conditions must be met:

  • One of the two hands must be higher than the Dealer’s.
  • The second hand must contain at least one card not used in the first hand. With five cards, the only possible second hand is Ace + King.
  • The insurance bet does not exclude the possibility of the dealer buying the game.
  • If after the dealer bought the game, any combination was formed, the dealer opens the cards of the players who participated in the game purchase in turn and compares the combination of each of the boxes with his combination.
  • After the dealer bought the game, a combination higher than yours may form: in this case, your box loses. The dealer takes the Ante and Bet bets.
  • If after the dealer bought the game, there is “no game” again, the Bet bet is not paid and is not taken.
  • If the Player’s hand is stronger than the Dealer’s, the Dealer pays only for the Bet according to the payout table. The Ante is not paid.

  • If the Dealer has “No Game”, the Player may choose to collect the Ante or to “buy a game” for the Dealer, meaning exchanging the Dealer’s highest card for the next card in the deck, for the cost of one Ante. If the replacement card is identical and the Dealer still has “No Game”, the Dealer exchanges their highest card again at no cost – but only once.

  • If the Dealer obtains a qualifying hand after a game is bought, they compare it, box by box, with the Players who bought them a game.

  • If the Dealer’s new hand is stronger, the Player loses both Ante and Bet.

  • If the Dealer still has “No Game” after the purchase, the Bet is neither paid nor taken.

  • Buying a game does not cancel the option of placing an insurance bet.

  • If the Dealer and Player have equal hands, the winner is determined by the highest card. If no such card exists, the result is a “tie”: the Player’s bet remains, without win or loss.
